Chapter 1 initially introduces a
large amount of terminology. I enjoyed learning not only the definitions but
also the history behind these terms. Many typographic vocabularies originate
from traditional typesetting practices.
This chapter emphasizes that
context is everything, as typographers we must have clear intentions in order
to best reach your target audience. The typographer’s most fundamental job is
to merely make the words readable to the target audience. However the style in
which theses words are delivered can greatly affect the impact of the work.
Typography is constantly changing
and evolving. These evolving systems dictate what typefaces and layouts we as
designers use in order to communicate as effectively as possible.
